Christian Yelich’s Press Conference Gives Us Every Happy Feel Possible
Milwaukee Brewers’ worst kept secret was announced on Friday morning. Christian Yelich signed his extension for the next nine years. The press conference featuring Yelich and Brewers owner Mark Attanasio could not have made you feel better as a Brewers fan. The comments made by Yelich and the organization were special. It is not something that makes you tear up, but it does make you proud of what they did with Yelich to get this done before the season started. Brewers have someone special leading their franchise for the next decade. Here are some of my favorite comments from the press conference.
I told #Brewers owner Mark Attanasio he clinched quote of the year in Milwaukee sports circles when he explained that talks with Christian Yelich went all the way back to Halloween: "I guess it was trick or treat, and it turned out to be a treat."

Attanasio said everyone on #Brewers side agreed they couldn't let Yelich leave. "He's one of the true faces of the game. And he has huge connection in our community. We want to win a World Series because that creates a lifetime of memories. You need someone like this to do it."

How can you not appreciate all of this? I hope you realize how rare and special this in sports. It is not even a modern-day thing either. From the 60’s and 70’s, we saw athletes leave smaller markets to play for a bigger market team. Yelich didn’t want to do that. Rather, he wants to be in Milwaukee for the rest of his career. Attanasio adding that they have worked on this since late October tells us all about their offseason plans. They knew the window opened back up for the next five or six years versus two. Brewers also are aware they need to build around Yelich a consistent winner.
