Jace Sternberger Has Star Potential for the Packers
I promise you that is not sour grapes. Let’s face facts – most tight ends that end up being stars get drafted in second and third round. This is not to say that T.J. Hockenson will not be not be a star. But the recent National Football League history says great tight ends are drafted in the second and third round. If that’s the case, Green Bay Packers might have struck gold with Jace Sternberger from Texas A&M. Packers third round draft pick. He has all the makings of being a stud for Green Bay. He will be a great addition to a position that definitely needed an infusion of talent for Green Bay.
The combination of Sternberger and Jimmy Graham is straight up dangerous for opponents against the Packers. Aaron Rodgers has a bevy options. Sternberger might not be the blocking tight end that the Packers wanted but they’ve kept Marcedes Lewis for a reason. Sternberger wants to improve on this part of his game, and he is not that bad. This is not a Noah Fant situation for the Packers where Graham and him would be looking at each other like the Spiderman meme. He can do great things in the passing game though. That is where you can be excited about the third-rounder’s potential.
Packers have to love a few things about the Aggie product. He did great work in the red zone last year which is always a plus for Rodgers. He also does not go down after catching the football. Sternberger is a YAC monster. That is an encouraging sign for a team who has had tight ends that could not do shit after the catch. Another part of the former Aggies tight end that the Packers have to love is his big-play ability. Graham does not have that ability anymore. He is too slow and cannot break away from the safety. Jace can definitely do that and go right up the seam. He will definitely have a few plays in Matt LaFleur’s playbook this Fall.
The sun will set on Graham and the Packers then it will be time for Sternberger to shine. I cannot wait.
Charlie.
