Aaron Rodgers Not Being at Mini Camp Brings Positives & Negatives

Aaron Rodgers will not be at minicamp today when the Green Bay Packers continue their offseason workout plan. We’re 13.5 weeks away from the first snap of the season. There is still a great unknown about who the Packers quarterback will be. Along with if the Packers and Rodgers are going to make up in some way, or, we will have the football’s version of The Last Dance. With Rodgers not being there, good things and bad things are going to be there for his Packers’ teammates especially Jordan Love.
The positive is an obvious one. Jordan Love will get first-team reps with all of the stars. Love will get to work with Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, Robert Tonyan, and others. He will also have Aaron Jones in the backfield. Sure, there might be people ready to criticize Love for checkdowns, but it is way too early in Love’s career to worry about that. It’s the first time with the first team. He will likely do some settling and Green Bay will need to work with him on that. Love isn’t beyond criticism, but a minicamp in June is not the bastion of athlete competition.
Another potential positive is that Love could make a believer out of Adams. Remember Adams is a free agent next season. It sounds like the team is going through the usual process of trying to bring him back. But with the cap issues plus Rodgers’ uncertainty, there might be some thought for Adams to test his luck in free agency next offseason. If Love and he can start to build chemistry, that could convince Adams that Love will be great for the final part of his career.
The negative is also pretty obvious. The talk about the minicamp will be about Rodgers and how did Love do versus anything else. I get it. These journalists need stories, right? The Rodgers thing is too good to be true. People want to read about it. Therefore, the questions geared towards Matt LaFleur, Davante Adams, and many others will be around Love and Rodgers. That’s a no-brainer for those Big J’s to get more answers. That said, Rodgers has made a minicamp that he’s not attending all about him versus the team trying to get to the Super Bowl.
We’ll see if we hear from Rodgers this week. That would be the cherry on top.
Charlie.
