Milwaukee Brewers nearly found a way to find a day game. They’ve been brutal this season during the day, and it looked like it would be no different in this game. Milwaukee only had one run in the ninth inning, but the Colorado Rockies fell apart in the ninth with some brutal catching by Tom Murphy and pitching leading to a tied game. Sadly for the Crew, Corey Knebel gave up a home run to Nolan Arenado with two strikes. It was power against power and Arenado won. There’s not much you can do here. Milwaukee stays a game back from the Chicago Cubs after they also lost to the San Diego Padres.

Player of the Game: Jon Gray – It appears that Jon Gray turned a corner in the month of July. Gray did not have a good season to begin the year, and it appeared like he might be lost when the Rockies sent him down to the minors. Gray had been really good for the last month, and he continued it on Sunday with a dominating pitching performance. He went 8 innings with 8 strikeouts and only four hits allowed.

Silver Star: Trevor Story – What an asshole this guy is, eh? The ultimate Brewers killer at the moment. He’s hit six home runs in seven games against the Brewers this season. SIX. Story is the MVP of the Brewers Killer Club or president which ever you choose. Story should get inducted int the Brewers Killer Hall of Fame sooner rather than later. Jay Bruce, Adrian Gonzalez and Paul Goldschmidt will all be at the ceremony.

Honorable Mention: Orlando Arcia – Here’s the thing… We had Mike Moustakas and Travis Shaw both hit home runs yesterday, but I have to give Acria love for coming through with a huge hit in the ninth inning. Arcia stepped up to the plate with two outs and the ability to extend the game. Craig Counsell opted to keep him in, and he delivered for his coach with a huge double. Hope this could be the start for something promising.

Next up: Brewers will meet the Padres on Tuesday after a much-needed day off. Brewers send Chase Anderson to the mound who has been stellar of late with solid performances since the All-Star Break. He had homer trouble at Miller Park before though. Clayton Richard goes for San Diego. He’s a groundballer, but he’s been brutal on the road with 6.10 ERA with a majority of homers allowed. Big night for guys like Jesus Aguilar and a recently hot Ryan Braun.
