BrewCap: Huge First Inning Carries the Crew

Milwaukee Brewers picked up where they left off on Saturday night. Brewers exploded for six runs in the first inning jumping all over Colorado Rockies left-hander Tyler Anderson. This was a very impressive inning for the Brewers considering Anderson has been one of the best pitchers in the last two months for Colorado. Brewers got to him early and often paved by Travis Shaw’s grand slam.
Player of the Game: Travis Shaw – Even though he only had one hit in the game, Shaw provided the most important one of the game. Shaw has not been good in two regards this year – against lefties or with bases loaded. Shaw proved the haters wrong on Saturday night. He hit a massive grand slam to put Milwaukee ahead 5-0 in the first inning. This might have been motivation for the Mayor to show he belongs in the lineup against left-handers. It’s also good to see he seems more relaxed at the plate with the bases juiced.
Silver Star: Freddy Peralta – Here’s the thing with Freddy. He’s not the greatest to watch pitch at this moment. He can put people on and deal with trouble in certain sports. Peralta allowed only two hits and one of the them left the yard yet still it’s an impressive performance by Peralta. He struck out eight batters, only allowed two hits and walked two batters. Peralta is at 114 innings for the year. It’s probably it for him, and if so, it’s been an awesome season for him.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Braun – What’s not being talked about enough is how this new-look Brewers team is helping Ryan Braun immensely. He had two hits with a home run and an RBI single in the first inning. In the last 10 days, Braun saw his average go up 10 points, and he looks better and better at the plate. Braun is a dangerous hitter again at the plate versus lefties and as a pinch hitter when he’s not on the mound.
Next up: Milwaukee goes for the sweep this afternoon. They have not been great at doing that this season. They only have five sweeps on the year. Wade Miley goes for the Brewers whose been great, but you have to deal with the likes of Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story and Ian Desmond who all mash lefties. Rockies send Jon Gray whose been awesome in the last month, but he does not have good numbers versus the Brewers for his career. Christian Yelich has some awesome numbers against him.
