BrewCap: Milwaukee Inches Closer to Division Lead

Milwaukee Brewers are red hot. You know this, I know this. They went into Chicago with a purpose. If they swept the Cubs, they would lead the division. Even taking two of three meant Milwaukee is 1 or 1.5 games back of the Cubs for the National League Central. There aren’t many teams playing better than the Milwaukee Brewers right now. They’re on fire, and it’s amazing to watch this team every night. Another tight one resulted in a 3-2 victory, but the bullpen, Wade Miley and a few big hits proved to the be the difference.
Player of the Game: Josh Hader – Oh my god. Josh Hader had many memorable moments in his year with the Milwaukee Brewers. He may get some Cy Young votes, and they’re much deserved. He struck out the side in the seventh and eighth inning. He struck out players like Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez and pinch hit star David Bote. Hader was magnificent. We might not see him the rest of the series, but this game fit his style of player per Craig Counsell.
Silver Star: Mike Moustakas – Nice day from the Moose facing a lefty-lefty matchup. He had two hits, scored two runs and had a walk. Moustakas set the table in the sixth with a double that nearly left the ballpark. He scored on a wild pitch uncorked by Carl Edwards Jr. Moustakas looked ready for playoff baseball tonight. That’s cliche, but there are some guys who are built for October. Moose is definitely one of them.
Honorable Mention: Wade Miley – You know, Miley didn’t do anything special tonight. But in terms of pitching against Chicago, he deserves an A+. It’s hard to face a team in back-to-back starts. Usually, that favors the hitter. In this case, Miley pitched to contact more than I think we’ve seen in the past. He had so many groundballs yesterday.
Next up: Brewers will go for the tie of the division with Jhouyls Chacin on the mound. It’s the guy you want there considering how well Chacin has pitched this season. He dominated in Wrigley last month. and will look to do the same. Jose Quintana, known Brewers killer, will be on the mound for Chicago. Brewers have to get to him early on to have a chance.
Charlie.
