Milwaukee Brewers are back where they started when the season began last Thursday. They’re at .500. Three wins, three losses to start the year. The last two wins happened against the Chicago Cubs including on Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday was not an easy one. Kyle Hendricks is a good pitcher and facing a Brewers team that he’s done well against in the past. But Milwaukee had their own good pitcher in Brandon Woodruff who matched Hendricks every step of the way. Lorenzo Cain provided the offense late and the Brewers were victorious, 4-2.

FIVE STARS
Brandon Woodruff – It’s hard to put first between Woodruff and Lo Cain. They’re both great and both deserve a ton of credit. For Woodruff, this is his best start against Chicago in recent memory. He went seven innings, struck out eight, and only allowed one hit. If this game happened later in the year, Craig Counsell probably would have let Woody go the distance. But with the ramp-up issues, Woodruff left after seven innings. He did tell Craig Counsell that he was ‘gassed’ after the seventh.

Lorenzo Cain – After having a year off, Lorenzo Cain is back in the mix. This is only his second game playing so far, but he made the most of it. Two home runs that were no doubters. Cain is likely ramping up with his quad injury from the Spring, but he looks fully healthy now. It will be interesting to see if Counsell works Cain into the lineup more often. While Kolton Wong is probably still the leadoff hitter, it seems like a given to have Cain be your two-hitter.

THREE STARS
Christian Yelich – Look, I know Yelich doesn’t have a home run or a run driven in at this point, but you can tell a hot streak might be brewing with him. Yelich went 3-for-4 yesterday with a walk getting on base four times yesterday. He had a double and two singles. While this isn’t murdering every baseball Yelich, this is still an encouraging sign that he is more himself at the plate.

TWO STARS
JP Feyeresin – Yes, the River Falls native has been good this season, he did not have success slamming the door on the Cubs. Due to Josh Hader pitching in the ninth, they needed a closer option in the tenth. Feyereisen was not that guy for the Brewers. He needed to be bailed out by Brad Boxberger. It is likely if the Brewers do that again, Boxberger gets the call.

ONE STAR
Luis Urias – Milwaukee decided to move on from Orlando Arcia on Tuesday. How has Luis Urias paid them back? He hasn’t. Urias has been awful to start the year. On Monday, he failed to bring in a runner on third with one out. Then yesterday, he had an opportunity to get Yelich in and couldn’t achieve that either. Brewers also cannot have him be the sixth hitter in the lineup.

NEXT UP
The Crew takes on St. Louis in the Cardinals’ home opener. The weather does not look good for this one. It would not surprise me if we’re playing Friday instead of today. Corbin Burnes gets the ball for Milwaukee while Adam Wainwright takes it for St. Louis.
