Brewers Star Ratings: Milwaukee Deals With a Miami Hangover

Milwaukee Brewers are having some trouble getting up for their next game after a rival. In each of the series after they beat Chicago, Milwaukee lost their first game of the series. They dropped one to St. Louis. Another one to Pittsburgh. Then again with Miami. It seems like the Brewers take a deep breath and lay their foot slightly off the gas. In their first game of the series, Milwaukee is 2-5 this year. The Brewers looked lifeless on Monday night as Corbin Burnes has his first tough start of the season. Let’s see if there are any positives to take way from a bad blowout by the Miami Marlins.
TWO STARS
Drew Rassmussen – Let’s give it up for Rassmussen here. He was awful to start the season. I didn’t know if this guy could be an everyday reliever for the Brewers, and now, he’s starting to come along nicely. The last five appearances have been very solid for the Brewers’ reliever allowing zero runs with a few strikeouts. The argument against Rassmussen is he is doing it mostly in low-leverage situations.
ONE STAR
Corbin Burnes – There are bad starts even in Cy Young here. It’s hard to have a year where you remain unscathed throughout the year. Burnes struck out eight batters in the sixth innings and did not walk anyone. He is two strikeouts away from the record. But Burnes did not have an answer for Garrett Cooper or Corey Dickerson. Both of those guys have good career numbers against the Brewers. This might be another case of a bad scouting report which seems to be a problem with the Pittsburgh Pirates last week.
Angel Perdomo – I was ready to sell into the idea that Angel Perdomo could be the guy as a lefty in more of a situational spot versus Brett Suter. Now, I’m pretty off that idea. Perdomo blew up against the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon. Then he struggled again on Monday. while he did a little something, Perdomo might not be ready to be a big leaguer just yet.
NEXT UP: Milwaukee and Miami get together again tonight. Adrian Houser gets the ball for the Brewers. Houser has not been good at home in the last couple of years. Hopefully, that’s a small sample size and nothing to worry about. Daniel Castano is on the mound for Miami. This is the Brewers’ second appearance against a lefty this season. Castano has been pretty good in his short time as a major leaguer.
