“Let’s just state the facts I’m a highly successful head coach.” – Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.

That’s a hell of a way to start a press conference on any NFL Monday after a loss. It’s magnified when the team lost three straight games. Coach McCarthy put his balls on the table on Monday. This is going to be a drop on local radio stations, but McCarthy gave his declaration of who he is as a football coach. This was a calculated speech by McCarthy to show confidence in this team. Will it work? That’s left to be remain unseen in what’s the most critical four weeks where Green Bay will play four potential playoff teams.

Green Bay had a motto of ‘Nobody’s underdog’ in the past, and that’s the kind of speech we got from McCarthy on Monday. He knows this is his last ditch effort to get the team back. Packers player might be lost, and there’s no saving them yet McCarthy has to try, and he’s trying install confidence in this team. Let’s face it when players are saying this is their ‘low point of their whole career’, two things can happen – One, you can pick yourself back up and start playing like the team everyone expected at the beginning of the year. Two, you never pull yourself out of the rut, and it’s going to be Green Bay’s worst season since 2008. McCarthy showed that he’s ready to turn this around and win some games, but no one knows if his team will be with him.

Sure, this website called for McCarthy to be fired. Two days after, I feel some of my venom could have been directed at Ted Thompson. Seeing Jason Garrett and Jack Del Rio flourish with more talent makes me think that McCarthy isn’t the only problem here. Can Green Bay’s head coach overcome the lack of talent and get back to the playoffs? The jury is still out.

I do know one thing Green Bay is a hell of a team when their backs are collectively against the wall. Something changes in the attitude and swagger of this team starting with McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers working it down to last man on the roster. That’s what won them a Super Bowl in 2010, that’s what kept Green Bay alive in 2013 and 2015 when times were nearly this rough, and it might be what saves them again.

Green Bay needs a surge of energy, and McCarthy might have lit the fuse.
