Freddy Peralta might be making a leap. Yes, we should not overreact to Spring Training numbers. That’s true. But it is hard not to get excited about what the future might hold for Fastball Fred. He has been electric in spring and won the fifth starter spot over Josh Lindblom. Peralta is 25 years old and experienced now in Major League Baseball playing the last few years. The time could be now for Peralta to have a major season for the Brewers and make this pitching rotation somehow even better.

Josh Lindblom will begin the season in the Brewers bullpen. Freddy Peralta gets that final rotation spot.

Craig Counsell spoke that Peralta matured as a pitcher and is ready for starter responsibilities. To me, that says everything we need to know. While he is a valued asset out of the bullpen, Peralta could be a dynamic starter for this team too. Just because he struggled early on in his career should not deter anyone from thinking he cannot do it. Peralta has electric stuff that isn’t just his fastball anymore. He worked in a slider along with a few other pitches from time to time.

I’m trying VERY hard not to jump out of my couch and be all-in on this Brewers team but I’m failing. Everything is there for them to have this great season. I see it. Maybe it’s me being a homer and having some of my dad’s optimistic fan spirit in me yet I believe in this bunch. Peralta having a breakout year would make the Brewers’ rotation extremely tough to deal with on a regular basis with Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff cooking as well.

If Peralta doesn’t work out as a starter, there is still the bullpen where he thrives. That’s always a good fallback plan, but it seems like Peralta isn’t looking back.
