Giannis Has Been An Absolute Monster Around Rim This Season

Milwaukee Bucks’ superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is having another great season. He definitely should be in the running for another MVP. Now, we all know he will probably not win it because no one has won the MVP three straight years since Larry Bird in the mid-80s. Regardless, Giannis is playing like an MVP, and that’s all that matters honestly. He is on a complete heater right now. Antetokounmpo will go for his fifth straight 35 plus point game tonight against Denver. It is incredible how good he has been around the rim this season.
Players to take more than 250 attempts in the restricted area so far this season:
Giannis Antetokounmpo – 328 FGA (78.7%)
Domantas Sabonis – 254 FGA (69.3%)
Zion Williamson – 422 FGA (65.6%)
Clint Capela – 275 FGA (64.0%)
Andre Drummond – 260 FGA (51.9%)— Kane Pitman (@KanePitman) March 1, 2021
Giannis is making nearly 80 percent of his shot around the rim. 80! That means every 10 baskets that Giannis takes in the restricted area, he makes eight of them. That is far and away better than anyone else in the league. The other guys do not come close. For as many attempts that a player like Zion Williamson has, he is 13% worse than what Giannis is doing around the rim. For many of those that wanted more from Giannis in the interior are seeing exactly that from the Greek Freak.
We’ll see the two of the top MVP contenders in action tonight with Nikola Jokic and Giannis. Antetokounmpo got the best of him a month ago, but Jokic is on an equally good heater. Jokic had an amazing game against Chicago last night going off for 39 points, 17 rebounds, and nine assists. Now, the Bulls do not have guys like Brook Lopez or Giannis to hold down Jokic. This will be super fun though as it always is. Jokic is annoying to watch against your team because he gets way too many calls, although, Giannis weirdly is getting more since he’s making more free throws.
