Good news for baseball fans, the last two games of the day were much better than the first two. National League seems stronger across the board versus American League, but what the hell do I know.

Player of the Game: Johnny Cueto – Whoa hipster move here from your boy, but hear me out… Cueto had a brutal postseason in 2015. He had a five-plus ERA and allowed 15 earned runs. Cueto did the opposite minus one mistake to Javy Baez. Giants pitcher went eight innings strong, only allowed three hits and 10 strikeouts. He pitched great against a potent Cubs offense and in a crazed environment at Wrigley.

Not Player of the Game: Giants baserunners – If you want to point to one thing that could have been different in a pitcher’s duel, San Francisco made two outs on the bases in the first three innings. Gorkys Hernandez got thrown out at second after reaching with a bunt single then in the third, Conor Gillaspie, Wednesday’s night hero, got picked off at first after a lead-off base hit.

Dodgers 4 Nationals 3
Player of the Game: Justin Turner – The red devil had himself an afternoon. He had two hits including a big fly in the third that proved to be the difference. In the third, Max Scherzer had one out to go, and it would be 2-0 Dodgers yet Turner made sure the lead would double with a big home run.

Not Player of the Game: Max Scherzer – The sneaky thing about Scherzer this season is he gives up a lot of home runs. He’s a good pitcher, but Scherzer tends to give up the big flys more than he should. Corey Seager and the aforementioned Turner both went hard on him giving up four runs in six innings.

Big Moment: Fifth Inning – Clayton Kershaw didn’t have his best stuff out there, and Washington had him on the ropes in the fifth. Jayson Werth gets on with a leadoff single then Daniel Murphy gets on as well with one out. Kershaw found a little something extra to get out Ryan Zimmermann and Danny Espinosa to avoid this game being tied.
