Dusty Baker lost his last nine games when trying to advance in the postseason. That’s an all-time high for any manager in the history of Major League Baseball. Baker has some historic follies whether it be his stops in San Francisco, Chicago, Cincinnati and now, Washington. Max Scherzer pitched his ass off in this game. He went six innings striking out seven batters in 99 pitches. He made one mistake with Joc Pederson who hit out a home run to tie the game. Instead of leaving the ace in, Baker decided to go to his bullpen. It didn’t work out for him at all with five relievers trying to get Los Angeles out and by the end of it, Los Angeles had four runs to Washington’s one.

What blows my mind is why Baker didn’t let Scherzer go for a couple more batters? If he struggles one or two, Baker makes the move to the bullpen. It’s not like Baker has an Andrew Miller in his bullpen where he can almost guarantee the game is staying level. He trotted out a sub-par pitcher in Marc Rzepczynski whose been past his prime for the last couple of years. This quote is all you need to know about Baker.

Washington will be back, but at some point, Baker needs to cure his demons to be successful in October.
