Robert Tonyan & Davante Adams Rank in Top Five of Pass Catchers in 2020

One of the biggest things you hear from the national media is that Aaron Rodgers does not have many weapons. Rodgers does not have the arsenal compared to some of the others who play at his position. Some Packers fans also buy into this notion. For me, it’s a tough one because it’s not true. The Packers do have weapons, but what’s annoying to the fans is they’re not the flashiest names. And because Green Bay doesn’t go after the flash like an LA or Tampa Bay, it seems like they have no weapons to compete. That’s not true either. According to NFL’s Next Gen stats, Robert Tonyan was the best pass catcher in all of 2020 while Davante Adams finished fourth. Pretty good for a guy with no weapons.

For those wondering what qualifies as a NextGen stat, they have a glossary available. If you scroll a little bit, you’ll get the wide receiver/tight end information. This also makes me wonder if we should walk back the noise about Robert Tonyan having a regression 2021 year. Many people feel like Tonyan will not be able to have success in the same way. But looking at how well his season went last year, maybe it’s not out of the question that he has a good year.
